Colombo: President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has made a significant change to a 77-year-old tradition followed in Sri Lanka’s budget presentation.
For decades, finance ministers carried the budget documents in a confidential briefcase while presenting them in Parliament. However, breaking this long-standing tradition, President Dissanayake used a locally manufactured document case to bring the budget papers and deliver his speech.
A Move Towards National Production
This change is seen as a step towards promoting local production and embracing a new era of governance. By using a locally made document case, the President has sent a strong message about supporting domestic industries and innovation.
