Kottayam:
A shocking ragging incident has emerged from the Government Nursing College in Kottayam, Kerala, where five third-year nursing students have been arrested for allegedly subjecting three first-year students to extreme physical and mental abuse over a span of three months.
The victims, who are from Thiruvananthapuram, filed a formal complaint with the Kottayam Gandhinagar police, revealing horrific acts of torture that began in November 2024. The ragging included being forced to stand naked while dumbbells were hung from their private parts, stabbing with geometry box compasses, and severe beatings.
The abuse worsened when lotion was applied to the wounds, intensifying the pain, and forced into their mouths when they screamed. The seniors reportedly filmed the abuse and threatened the juniors with academic consequences if they reported it.
Additionally, the seniors extorted money from the juniors every Sunday for alcohol, and those who refused were beaten. One victim informed his father, who encouraged him to contact the police.
All five accused students are in police custody, awaiting appearance before a magistrate.
